When Dominic Imbordino heard a teammate shout “ball” after Elk Grove quarterback Nick Meyer lofted a pass into the corner of the end zone late in the game Friday night, the St. Charles North senior linebacker knew exactly what to do.

Third-round IHSA football playoff matchups are in place. Who stands in your team's path to the state semifinals?

For once, there was no rain on Friday night. That said, however, Mother Nature did not leave either St. Charles North or Elk Grove completely off the hook, as a brisk wind out of the south had its way with punts, passes and kicks.

OUTLOOK
The North Stars hoped to be heading into their first-round 7A playoff game Saturday against fellow Upstate Eight Conference-member South Elgin with some momentum.

First-round playoff action last weekend witnessed both expected results and huge upsets. Area teams now prepare for their Round 2 opponents.

The flu scare that closed St. Charles East High School through Friday won't keep the Saints' football team from hosting its crosstrown rival on Saturday.

David Reisner has missed his share of field goals this season.

The South Elgin sophomore admits as much.
